1) I finished my second poetry manuscript. It’s titled COUNTERGLOW and it took me roughly 6 years to complete. The manuscript needs to find a home with a publisher in due time. For now, I’m looking for other poets who are interested in reading it and giving me feedback on it. Contact me if you’re interested!
2) I was able to finally sit down and work on my video-poems—I call them video-poems because I don’t know what else to call them. The project is still experimental in that I’m still theorizing its critical frameworks, but the idea is to make visual-sound-language events that fully realize poems from the COUNTERGLOW collection. My first attempts were linear and narrative, whereas toward the end of my SFAI residency, I found myself more interested in associative imagery and sound. Professor Joe Wenderoth at UC Davis has written some pretty cool stuff about video-poetry at TriQuarterly, and it has me thinking about what it means to undermine narrative and what's at stake in video poetics.
Here are two of my favorite Video Poems from the SFAI residency. You can watch more on my YouTube Channel.
