It's titled "Retrograde" and it originally appeared in FULCRUM: An Annual of Poetry & Poetics (2014). The poem will also appear in my second poetry collection, COUNTERGLOW, whenever I finally find a press interested in publishing it.
The poem explores the internal process of backward motion (spiritual-mental backpedaling) in response to external counter-forces such as those found in interpersonal relationship conflict and/or larger cultural and historical structures-- i.e. colonialism, sexism and the resultant silencing of alternative narratives within mainstream culture.
Most of the video clips were taken during my trips out to the Southwest for dissertation research. Many of the sounds you hear in the background are from the wind, animals, and my own hands.
Sometimes I see the world this way. Sometimes I speak the world this way.
